The Occupational Therapy (OT) department at QISH focuses on helping children with a sensory, cognitive, and developmental difficulties to be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives. OT can help children with various needs to improve their cognitive, physical, sensory, and motor skills and enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. The child is expected to play and learn while the occupational therapists evaluate the child’s skills for playing, academic performance, and daily activities and compare them with what is developmentally appropriate for that age group. Occupational therapist might be a part of multidisciplinary team or/and school team.

Sensory Processing Disorders

Learning Problems – Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia

Occupational Therapy helps to improve:

Fine motor skills (grasp and release, eye-hand coordination and pre-writing, handwriting skills)

Motor coordination (hitting a target, batting a ball, copying from a blackboard, etc.)

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as getting dressed, brushing their teeth and feeding themselves etc.

Behavioral difficulties (to maintain positive behaviors in all environments)

Poor handwriting/slow written output

Sensory and attention issues (to improve focus and social skills)
